Does Health Make Your List Of Priorities?
Hey, Happy Monday good people! Welcome to the Broke Girls Gotta Be Healthy Mindful Health Moment Monday for July.
Today’s discussion will be about setting priorities for our well-being and why we put everything even the most mundane before our personal health and steps to go in better direction.
Let’s get to it.
WHAT IS YOUR HEALTH WORTH?
Michael Pollan, author of In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto had this to say about our priorities towards our health: “…in the last decade or two we’ve somehow found the time in the day to spend several hours on the internet and the money in the budget not only to pay for broadband service, but to cover a second phone bill and a new monthly bill for television, formerly free.
For the majority of Americans, spending more for better food is less a matter of ability than priority.” p.187
Maybe sound familiar? Is it easier to cop to a luxury item than to spend on a pair of sneakers for walking or a gym membership, or balanced meal? Aren’t you worth it?
ON CLOSER INSPECTION..
Time to get real. Have you taken a deep look at why you don’t make your daily health a priority?
Let’s take a look at a few possible reasons.
We are wonderfully made. Meant for good (maybe not perfect) health free from pain and dis-ease. In other words, despite our food choices, inactivity, and sometimes indifference towards out bodies, we can be healthy.
So before you throw in the towel without even working up a sweat, consider that yu have it in you to reach your goals, you just need a plan, a little push, and repeat performance. Don’t start off with a negative.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS.
Got an injury, bad knee, back, etc.? There’s Google for that. What’s the point? Research exercise modifications so you can succeed. Don’t have a large budget for food? Guess what? That same $5 for fast food which as you know is harmful can be used at your local Aldi’s / Super Wal-Mart / or local farmer’s market.
Again, it’s all about priorities. And trust me, healthy nutrient dense food does NOT have to be bland and tasteless. If you need some ideas for quick and healthy meal prep for singles to families, I’ve got you covered
ASK FOR GUIDANCE.
Need some help? Ask your doctor or nurse, knowledgeable friends, Or have a look into Reddit’s forums especially Beginner Exercise, Bodybuilding, Ask The Docs or Nutrition.

IMPLEMENT & FOLLOW THROUGH.
Imagine the domino effect in your life. Forwards AND Backwards. When you follow through it creates a good domino effect. Small healthy changes create bigger ones. On the other hand, bad habits, lackluster nutrition, lack of exercise also creates a domino effect. Towards dis-ease.
Set your alarm, make healthy lunches, walk with your SO. Become the tiny change to establish a habit. Need more help to establish goals?
See here. Make it your goal to create sustainable goals that will continue to help you. Don’t create goals just for the short-term results.
Small changes = Big results.
EVALUATE & TWEAK.
Sometimes the best laid plans need to be changed. Life events such as weddings or vacations can throw off your best eating intentions. Injuries can occur if you aren’t doing some pre-exerise mobility work (yep. been there.) There’s always something.
Don’t let that be the reason you stop completely. Adjust, and move forward. Ate too much cake at the wedding? Get up in the morning and do your workout. Pulled a muscle or suffering from tendonitis? See your chiropractor, or sports MD & find out what are some good gentle exercise to do until you are all healed up or YouTube it.
Jeff Cavaliere (Just ignore the Bro stuff.) or Bob & Brad (that jingle tho…it’s an earworm.) are good go to’s for some “what the heck is going on with my leg/arm/wrist,etc.” digital support.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
(You knew that was coming didn’t cha?! Using each of the five steps, Write down what is your deeper issue and ask yourself, “Am I self-sabotaging myself each day? Why? Can I overcome this deeper issue?
Yes you can.
Next, research your plan, and write that down second. Let your family and friends know your intent so you can get support. Or look for a local support group to stay accountable.
For me, one of my closest friends that I have helped counsel nutritionally; text each other YT links to some of our favorite workouts. Or if it’s been quiet on my end she’ll ask me if I have done the latest Keaira LaShae workout.
Which BTW,THAT girl Keaira..is BEAST MODE. So it makes me stay up on my game to try and keep up with both Keaira and my friend. Like I said, accountability.
Now for parts 3-5, get some guidance, that can be from a friend, the interwebz, expert books.. this is the easiest part. Then implement your new goal and adjust it as you need to. Review this list everyday.
