15 Reasons Why Ignoring Exercise Will Cost You Health, Money, & Time.

Blog Body Goals

HATING ON EXERCISE? YOU’RE THROWING AWAY VALUABLE HEALTH, MONEY, & TIME.

We all know exercise is good for you. Yet at a time when so many choices of fitness is available, from Fitbits to Zumba to GRIT many people of all fitness levels and ages still find it difficult to make consistent exercise a priority in their daily lives.

HEALTH

1. NO EMPLOYER ROI.

Many 9-5’ers are familiar with their employers health incentive program.
In exchange for having adopting healthy behaviors, employees are subject to incentives from reduced employee premiums, to gift cards, cash prizes, or event tickets.

One of the employee incentive programs that I participated in rewarded with
gift cards to Whole Foods for having a healthy waistline measurement and cholesterol and
blood pressure within normal ranges.

I don’t know about you, but even with the Amazon merger, a gift card can easily put a
good dent into a basic shopping trip to Whole Foods.

Adopting an exercise program that works for you can get reap bonuses in your work wellness program plus the added benefit of “Knowing Your Numbers” to see where you can improve.

2. EXERCISE FOR SEXUAL HEALTH.

Yeah yeah, there is always Viagra, but natural circulation to the right places when needed
is best for you and your overall health in the log run, no weird side effects or co-pays.

Plus with exercise you get the benefit of a good mix of hormones such as endorphins
(‘runners high’), adrenaline, and testosterone.

I’m just gonna leave that one there.

3. DEVELOPMENT OF FAT.

Exercise plays a role in how well you digest your food. A high unhealthy fat/oils, high sugar diet contributes to “overabundant cell death” which can lead to malfunctioning of tissues, which can lead to… (see #4 below.)

4. POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT OF DISEASE.

What is dis-ease? Disease is defined by Merriam-Webster as a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment.

The hyphenated term known as ‘dis-ease’ in the Holistic medicine community (which either way you spell/say it means “lack of ease.”) is in part when your body is not receiving at minimum the nutrients it needs.

Tissues then began to lack what they need to function. What are organs made of? Tissues. What are tissues made of? Wood pulp.(Just kidding. Wanted to make sure you are still with me.)

Tissues are made up of cells. When organs begin to malfunction due to lack of nutrients, and the circulation of blood and oxygen provided by exercise, then dis-ease invades.

5. DEGENERATION OF BODY (MUSCLES. ORGANS, TISSUES… SEE #3)

Another build on to #3 & #4 is muscles also degenerate when they are not used which causes weakness and difficulty with lifting /pushing/pulling heavier loads.

Having more muscle on the frame built up by exercise, allows for a double bene: muscle doesn’t eat fat but it does create a more caloric deficit so you are burning more calories a day.

And don’t forget the muscle that never gets a break – the heart needs exercise to circulate more blood, which contains oxygen, which feeds your organs…see the circle of life?

6. NO MENTAL HEALTH BENES. / STRESS OUTLET

So maybe it’s one of those days when you woke up late, had to drive to school or work in commute traffic, got chewed out by your supervisor, and want to come home kick the dog,
and curl up in a corner and just zone out with Hulu?

Or maybe your daily life consists of just trying to keep it together so you don’t have a breakdown?

Can exercise help with that? Absolutely. Serotonin, one of the hormones released during exercise helps to boost mood which is the medical equivalent of an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor.)

7. LOW DESIRE TO PURSUE DEVIANCES/ADDICTIONS.

Now this is not to say that through the power of exercise the residents of the world
will stop all addictions and wrong doings.(But hey wouldn’t that be cool and make a great video?)

While it may not incite world peace, exercise does increase self-confidence which
in turn creates a mindset for some to become better than the addiction or desire to do wrong.

8. YOU WILL LOOK OLDER THAN YOU ARE.

Lack of exercise also results in loss of collagen, a protein that supports the skin,
and keeps it from sagging & wrinkling.

Not to mention those that don’t exercise, many times don’t have the best diet so you
get the double loss of collagen building from lack of fruits and dark leafy greens.

One other lack of exercise loss is you don’t get the nice benefits of the post workout rosy cheek afterglow that is usually saved for pregnant women. Get in an hour of exercise a day so you can still get carded at 40.

MONEY

9. HEALTH BILLS!

Dollar bill with medication bottle on top of it.

The average cost for health insurance in 2017 in the US depending upon where you live ranges from $217-$426 for just basic preventive care.

When you add in specialist care appointments & diagnostics plus medication, it quickly adds up. Why? see Health #3-5. Prevention to keep money in your pocket begins with exercise and diet.

10. TIME OFF WORK = LOST PRODUCTION AND POSSIBLY PAY.

Simple one here. As we have reviewed lack of exercise can kickoff symptomatic dysfunction that can lead to Illness.; especially if it is more than the common cold, this requires time to get back on track which could mean lost income from not being at work.

11. MORE EXPENSIVE OR MORE EXPENSE IN CLOTHES OR TAILORING.

Not working out regularly? How’s that favorite outfit still looking on you? A little snug?
Need to of be adjusted? Or did the extra pounds create a case for a couple of new outfits?

Utilizing exercise to stay within your current or lesser weight range keep money in your pocket from having to buy new clothes or tailoring.

“Prevention for keeping money in your pocket begins with exercise and diet.”

TIME

12. HOSPITAL/ER VISITS // REHAB/RECOVERY

Ironically, one of the main reasons that people don’t exercise is time. Average non surgical hospital visit? Three days. Average post heart disease related recovery time? Ten days.

And the average non traumatic or injury related ER/Urgent Care visit is 30 minutes.

Wait, that is not too bad. But that is just the wait time.

Being seen, getting diagnostics and labs done, waiting for the results, waiting for
discharge papers all wraps up to about 90 minutes to almost three hours.

Some of the average reasons being admitted to the hospital? Chest pain or a Diabetic exacerbation.

Average reason to be seen at the ER or Urgent Care? Colds/Flu, Diabetic related symptoms,
and Anxiety all of which can be mitigated with regular exercise.

Which on average depending on the type of exercise only takes 20 minutes to an hour of your time, but leaves you with long-lasting benefits.

13. WEAKER HEALTH = LESS TIME ENJOYING LIFE & FAMILY
A silhouette of a family at the

One of the more consistent laments health professionals hear from family and patients alike
is that deteriorated health keeps them from enjoying their family. Whether that be playing
with kids or grand-kids,spending quality time with their spouse, or just enjoying
their own space free from pain and/or medications.

The top 7 CDC dis-eases that still prevail in US Healthcare dollars: Asthma, Arthritis, Cancer, Cardiovascular diseases, Depression, Diabetes and Kidney disease. One of the top risk behavior of chronic disease according to the CDC was lack of exercise:
“In 2015, 50% of adults aged 18 years or older did not meet recommendations for
aerobic physical activity.
In addition, 79% did not meet recommendations for both aerobic and
muscle-strengthening physical activity.”

14. TIME FOR TRAVELING TO/FROM APPTS ESP SPECIALISTS.

This one goes hand in hand with money. For each specialist that you see for secondary
or tertiary health problems, requires more appointments, time off, traffic constraints,
again with time waiting, money spent on gas, and wear and tear on your car.

15. MORE EFFORT REQUIRED TO DO BASIC DAILY ACTIVITIES.

Exercise as mentioned above strengthens your whole body and allows you to get even the basics done like bathing, getting dressed, cooking etc. with ease.

If you have a chronic health problem that keeps you from getting an everyday task done
on your own and requires you to depend on and wait for the services of others such as
friends/family/co-workers/uber/lyft for that support; this is also time that could have been
spent elsewhere and/or done faster if you are in better shape.

“Average hospital time? Three days. Average workout time? 30 minutes.”

NOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN HIT OVER THE HEAD…

Did you see yourself in any of these points? That’s good, because that means you are open to improvement.

Please know that no one is on their game 100% of the time. Also not all exercise fits all;

We will talk about that in a future post.
